I bought this bench vise for a christmas present and found out that the jaws are not like a regualr machinist vise, they are relatively smooth They work good for wood because they don't leave teeth marks, but don't grip metal as tightly as standard jaws would. Other than the previously mentioned item, it is a good sturdy vise.
